Siteimprove and the Global Compact

Since 2010, we have remained proud members of the United Nations Global Compact initiative, which sets standards and universally accepted principles for companies within human rights, labor rights, and the environment. Once a year, we publish our Corporate Social Responsibility report to communicate our progress within these areas.

We also look to our global community for examples of how technology, including our own, can make the web—and the world—a better place for all. We recently sat down with Christine Ha, the "blind cook" and MasterChef winner, to learn how she navigates the kitchen and the web. Watch the video to find out!

Siteimprove and the Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015, the United Nations agreed to 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. We believe Siteimprove is uniquely positioned to contribute to three SDGs where we can make the biggest impact, as they align with our core business and expertise: quality education, reducing inequalities, and partnerships.

Goal 4: Quality education

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Our contribution

To educate the public and equip everyone with the skills they need to improve digital accessibility, we offer:

Increasing awareness of digital accessibility is one of our main social responsibility concerns. To spread the word about the need for more accessible websites, we:

  • Create and share content on our website and social media
  • Organize local events that focus on digital accessibility
  • Support Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) every year. In 2017, we organized a huge not-for-profit event in Copenhagen to celebrate GAAD, and we are planning several events for 2018 to get people talking, thinking, and learning about accessibility

Goal 10: Reduced inequalities

Empower and promote the social, economic, and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, economic, or other status

Our contribution

We believe that accessing and utilizing websites is a fundamental right. Our technology makes a genuine difference for more than 6,000 organizations and their users, and gives others the tools they need to contribute to the change. Our available technology includes:

  • The Siteimprove Accessibility software, which has been developed over 10+ years, enables organizations to remove digital barriers from their websites
  • The freely available Accessibility Checker for Google Chrome that empowers users to detect, understand, and fix accessibility issues on their websites. Our Chrome extension is downloaded by 1,000 new users each month, half of them coming from developing countries. We are striving to fight the lack of availability and affordability of accessibility solutions

Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals

Encourage and promote effective public, public-private, and civil society partnerships, building on the experience and resourcing strategies of partnerships

Our contribution

Successfully reducing the digital divide can only be achieved by the joint efforts of multiple stakeholders.

  • We’ve hosted and participated in several panel discussions to encourage dialog amongst policy makers, civil society, and standards organizations, including our participation in the 10th Session of the UN Convention for the Rights of People with Disabilities (UN COPS 10)
  • We are a participant of WAI-Tools, a collaborative project to innovate accessibility testing alongside a consortium of key players in the accessibility industry, national authorities, and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
  • We continue to encourage governments at all levels around the world to adopt effective policies and international accessibility standards that support digital inclusion
